Due to our continued success, we are currently recruiting for:

Horticultural Lead – Community Gardens

(Part time (22.5hours)

We are seeking a Horticultural Lead – Community Gardens to lead on all aspects of delivery relating to the Meanwhile Garden programme.  With the support of volunteer gardeners, the Horticultural lead will maintain our four community gardens based in East, West, North and South Belfast.  They will also develop and deliver training, ranging from how to grow plants and cook fresh food, to proactively engaging with local communities to encourage greater use and ownership of the gardens. 

The successful candidate will have excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail, as well as first-rate communication skills.  An outgoing and professional manner is a must and the ability to work to deadlines.  With the propensity for thinking ahead, and the ability to rise to the challenge of new or unexpected circumstances.  A facility to think creatively and come up with innovative solutions is highly desirable.  Self-motivated and have a commitment to self-development with a strong personal commitment to the aims and objectives of Groundwork Northern Ireland.

The ideal candidate will meet the following essential criteria:

  • Have a minimum of two years’ experience of working in a horticultural environment
  • Experience of delivering horticultural training to a wide variety of groups and abilities
  • Experience of managing trainees / volunteers and practical work on site
  • Experience of delivering projects on time, within budget and in accordance with funder requirements
  • Be fully proficient at using IT systems, with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office packages
  • Have a full driving licence and access to a car for official business

Desirable criteria:

  • Relevant qualification in a horticultural or agricultural subject
  • Experience of managing multiple projects

Salary:  £24,113 per annum (pro rata)

Hours of Work: 22.5 hours per week

Holidays: 25 days per annum plus 11 customary days (pro rata)

Duration: 6 months fixed term with the possibility of extension (subject to funding)
