An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented individual to join Merseyrail as Head of Corporate Communications. Reporting to the Commercial Director and providing support to the Managing Director, the successful individual will lead development and delivery of the corporate communications and engagement strategy for the business. This is a high profile and strategically important role to the business and will play a major part in ensuring that Merseyrail continues to be recognised as a widely respected and positive influence in both the Liverpool City Region and the wider rail industry.

The successful individual will play a particularly key part in leading our communications strategy for the new fleet of trains due to arrive on the Merseyrail network in the next couple of years. Working closely with our client, shareholders and other internal stakeholders, the role holder will be responsible for developing and delivering our corporate communications strategy, ensuring that it is positively received across the region and wider industry.

The role holder will lead our engagement strategy with stakeholders across the region and be the custodian of how we engage and work with those relevant persons and organisations.

The successful individual will play a lead role in our relationships with the media, providing and presenting information both proactively and reactively. The role holder will act as the nominated spokesperson for Merseyrail for certain business areas and communications, presenting the business in a professional and credible manner.

Applicants would be expected to be degree educated preferably in English Language, Journalism, Business or similar. Also have significant experience of working in a communications based role, ideally including experience of working with media organisations. A good understanding of the Liverpool City region, civic governance and politics is important for this role. An understanding of the rail industry is also beneficial, but not essential for the right candidate.

The successful applicant would be expected to have strong written and verbal communication skills and have a high level of confidence and motivation. Strategic thinking and organisational skills are expected, as well as a capability to work with and influence multiple stakeholders.
