Group Health and Safety Advisor

Full Time Permanent Contract

Reporting to the Group Health & Safety Manager, you will be part of a team of safety professionals tasked with supporting the day-to-day running of extremely busy and dynamic environments. You will be responsible for championing, promoting, maintaining and establishing health and safety awareness and best practice across the Group sites, together with promoting a positive safety culture and employee engagement.

Main duties include:

  • Supporting Health & Safety Committees at site level and work in partnership with other committees/employee representatives and staff as required
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of health, safety management standards as required.
  • Leading the introduction of Group health & safety procedures at site level.
  • Maintaining accident databases and ensuring timely and thorough accident investigation and update of WorkRite system accordingly and identifying actions to prevent recurrence, by comprehensive completion of all supporting documentation. 
  • Acting in an advisory capacity regarding health and safety issues.
  • Ensuring Personal Protective Equipment and safety equipment is being worn and in place, as is necessary.
  • Maintaining adequate records on health and safety issues to comply with legal requirements.
  • Conducting health and safety inspections across the site to identify procedural gaps and to ensure that the company is meeting its health and safety legislative obligations. 
  • Liaising with other business leaders and relevant partners on the introduction and management of safety standards at the sites.
  • Conducting site health and safety inductions promptly, organising statutory training, maintaining up-to-date training matrix and records, ensuring refresher training is carried out in timely manner.  Supporting with e-learning system requirements as required.  Assisting with the identification of safety training needs for the company and organise/facilitate and delivery of training.
  • Carrying out daily compliance monitoring, identifying potential hazards and appropriate corrective actions.
  • Overseeing contractors site inductions, reviewing policies, risk assessments and method statements, ensuring appropriate permits have been issued where required.
  • Providing relevant training to management and staff on safety issues

The successful candidate will ideally be degree-qualified in Environmental Health, Science, Engineering or Health and Safety, or will hold the NEBOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety as a minimum requirement and will possess at least two years’ experience in a similar role.

We are looking for candidates who can bring credibility, knowledge and skill to the role, and who are flexible and positive in their approach to work. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and will be comfortable working both independently and within a team, and in leading group projects. The successful candidate will have accomplished IT skills in Word and Excel and will be flexible to travel to any of our sites and have a valid driving licence with access to their own transport.
