Reach beyond with Liberty IT; for this is where you’ll find the super challenges, where you’ll be given the scope and the support to go further, dig deeper and fly higher.

We won’t stand over your shoulder. We won’t get in your way. We certainly won’t hold you back. You’ll bring the expertise. We’ll provide the platform to succeed.

Ready?

It’s time to do your thing.

Who you’ll be working with:

You'll be working with a group of Engineers and Architects in developing a cloud-native platform that will provide underwriting analysis to a strategic part of the business. This platform will help us determine what a good risk is and what quotes we should be supplying to our customers.

This is a full-stack JavaScript environment with Angular, TypeScript and Node.js. The backend is AWS CDK – (Lambdas / Step-Functions) Mongo dB / Dynamo dB / Aurora.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Be part of a team who are working to solve complex business problems by delivering high quality software that provide an outstanding experience for our customers.
  • Write clean code in line with the team’s set standards.
  • Own, scope and deliver well defined tasks or stories. Communicate and update your progress regularly at stand-ups or similar agile events.
  • Collaborate closely and cooperatively with your technical and non-technical teams to work towards the best solution that maximises value to the customer.
  • Contribute a culture of code quality and implement automated, unit and integration testing as part of the software development lifecycle. Apply good security processes such as threat modelling to the code you develop.
  • Implement a Test-Driven Development (TDD) approach and maintain CI/CD pipelines. Actively participate in reviewing Pull Requests from other team members.
  • Grow your knowledge of architecture, modern engineering principles and design patterns.
  • Assess the business value of new technologies and technical solutions using a data driven approach and contribute to their adoption into the product life cycle.
  • Supported by senior team members, seek opportunities to share and celebrate what you’ve learned through internal tech talks, blogging and external events.

Experience and skills we need:

  • Experience in writing and refactoring JavaScript code to create high-quality solutions.
  • A third level qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science or STEM subject and one year of post graduate software development experience in a commercial environment; or current and valid industry recognised certifications and three years software development experience in a commercial environment.
  • Experience in agile software delivery (Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.).
  • Knowledge and experience of continuous improvement in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience in technical communication with peers and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience and skills we’d love:

Below is an overview of the skills and experience we’d like you to have. However, don’t rule yourself out if you aren’t ticking all the boxes – a great attitude and desire to learn is what really stands out for us.

  • Exposure and experience in building cloud-native solutions using AWS, Azure, or GCP (or similar).
  • Knowledge and experience of DevOps as part of Agile software development.
  • Active participation in knowledge sharing activities, both within the team and with wider non-technical audiences.
  • Experience of building great software products with a customer-centric approach and balancing technical decisions with user needs and commercial constraints.

What’s on offer

  • Feel safe and secure whatever life brings, with health insurance (including 24/7 access to a digital doctor), life assurance and income protection.
  • Enjoy both today and tomorrow with employee discount schemes, annual bonuses and a competitive pension.
  • Protect your wellbeing with flexible working and a real work-life balance. Specifically, we have adopted a hybrid remote and in-office working culture, meaning you have ultimate flexibility in your work environment.
  • Grow yourself, your career and reputation through continuous learning, promotion opportunities and our generous recognition programme.
