Team Context

At Aflac Northern Ireland we’re all about the customer experience and one of the new teams we’re establishing will be responsible for building solutions that re-imagine the customer experience at Aflac.  Using web & mobile technologies such as Angular, Ionic and Node to deliver core capabilities to our policyholders and focusing on a mobile-first strategy making it easy for our customers to interact with us, change policy information, submit claims – all from the smartphone in their pocket.  At the same time, we’re building desktop website technology that will help deliver an omni-channel experience to our policyholders, ensuring that their interactions with Aflac are as frictionless as possible.

The intention is for our teams to continually adapt and reinvent their skills and capabilities over time as technologies change and evolve. We provide the right challenges and opportunities to enable your success, you to bring your enthusiasm, the ability to learn quickly, and to take minimum-viable-product technology to produce industrialised solutions for the enterprise.  Once you have successfully delivered robust and scalable solutions for Aflac, there will be a new technology waiting to be explored and built to scale within our organisation.  We’ll be keeping things pretty fresh.

Role Context

We want API Developers who understand how to deliver exceptional customer experiences with the latest technology, and are motivated to develop and learn new skills.  We are building intelligent apps using a multi-layer API integration architecture that will enable faster delivery of data and feature-rich capabilities to our applications.  We will be building modern, scalable applications that will put the policyholder in control of their lives, improve the services they receive from Aflac, and add value and simplicity to the customer experience.  As part of our Agile teams, we will provide you with the opportunity to use the latest technology to serve our policyholders and sales agents, and apply your skills as part of an exciting new team.

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering high-quality, tested, secure customer-centric solutions for mobile platforms
  • Participating in daily stand-ups and contributing to an Agile development team that values the opinion of everyone in the team
  • Developing and integrating application programming interfaces (APIs) leveraging RESTful techniques, typically using Java as the main programming language
  • Responsible for unit testing and maximizing test automation as part of the SDLC using a Test Driven Develop approach.
  • Implementing automation through a CI/CD delivery process
  • Listening to the inputs of others and working towards the best solution design that maximises the value to the policyholder, without ego or prejudice
  • Solving complex problems alongside fellow team members

What you should have

Below is an overview of the skills and experience we are looking for, but remember, don’t rule yourself out if you don’t have everything on the list – it’s your intellect and your attitude we are really after.

So that’s us. Thanks for taking the time to read this far (pretty impressive in the era of the 280-character tweet). We look forward to hearing from you if you fancy joining a new tech innovation company with the agility of a start-up and the stability of a Fortune 500 U.S. company.

Aflac is an equal opportunities employer

Aflac are a Fortune 500 company, and the largest supplier of supplemental health insurance in the US and Japan. Our insurance helps policyholders when they have an accident or illness, and when they come to us they are in one of their greatest times of need.

For this reason, it is critically important we have world-class technology solutions so our customer can focus on getting better. An innovative tech company based in Belfast, Aflac Northern Ireland will help create new digital products and enhance our cyber security capabilities.

While the work we do is of great importance, we don't take ourselves too seriously. We are fast-paced and hardworking, but maintain a welcoming and approachable culture. We like to have a good time and are not afraid to be imaginative and try new things.

We get it you probably never saw yourself working for an insurance firm. Safe to say none of us grew up dreaming of that either. However, once you see the impact our technology has on people's lives, and the opportunity for innovative solutions you'll see why we love it here.

We offer highly competitive pay and benefits, and support a variety of career development opportunities. Our goal is to make Aflac Northern Ireland one of the most adaptable IT and cyber security teams/organisations in the world. We constantly push ourselves to learn new technologies and play an influential role expanding the fintech frontier here in Belfast.

So if you are interested in shaping what we do in Northern Ireland, being an author of a new local company, and setting the tone of the organisation then we'd love to hear from you.

You know the drill: Send in a CV and some basic details and we'll be in touch.
