As part of our growing technology team, we need a strong Database Engineer to help us scale our existing MySQL databases, enhance database performance, support our database batch processes, and progress our integrations with external organisations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain APIs to external organisations such as LinkedIn, Facebook & Twitter.
  • Interface with Development team re integration re new APIs.
  • Manage and develop new Datastudio data integrations.
  • Assist development of Open API framework.

Job Responsibilities: Database

  • Install and maintain the performance of database servers and database applications.
  • Delete old data on a regular basis.
  • Develop processes for optimizing database security.
  • Set and maintain database standards.
  • Performance tuning of database systems, SQL Queries and online and batch programs.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.
  • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.
  • Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Create automation for repeating database tasks.
  • Maintain data warehouse from production data.
  • Be available for on-call support as needed.

Job Responsibilities: Batch Development

  • Maintain the Batch CRONs that update databases.
  • Update the current batch programs to ensure that they are robust.
  • Develop a robust batch schedule framework.


Work Hours & Benefits: 
We expect you to follow a 37-hour week, working from home (or from our Head Office in Portstewart, Northern Ireland). We offer a competitive salary and benefits package and opportunities for technical growth.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Strong command of MySQL and MySQL server tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards.
  • Understanding of relational and dimensional data modelling.
  • Understanding of Data Warehousing.
  • Experience of creating APIs to external databases (e.g. Facebook);
  • Unix shell scripting skills & PHP Programming experience.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • One to three years of experience in database development, information technology, database architecture, or a related field.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows Server environments.
  • Extensive experience with database technologies (MySQL in particular).
  • Extensive experience with programming (PHP) and APIs.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services.
